Held as part of the International Conference on Science and Technology (ICST UGM 2025), the 6th Geoscience and Environmental Management Symposium is dedicated to supporting and advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Each accepted paper is mapped to relevant SDGs such as climate action, clean energy, responsible resource use, water and land management, and sustainable communities. Our program encourages interdisciplinary solutions for a more sustainable and resilient future.

The 6th Geoscience and Environmental Management Symposium (GEM – ICST 2025) serves as an international interdisciplinary forum for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to present and discuss original research integrating geosciences, environmental management, engineering, and sustainability. Hosted by Universitas Gadjah Mada in conjunction with its major faculties, GEM focuses on advancing solutions to global challenges such as natural resource management, disaster risk reduction, renewable energy, and sustainable development.

In line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), every accepted paper is mapped to one or more of the 17 SDGs, fostering cross-disciplinary insights for a more sustainable future. Topics include land and water management, climate resilience, urban sustainability, circular economy, energy innovation, and more.

Since 2020, the Geoscience and Environmental Management Symposium has partnered with the International Conference on Science and Technology, with proceedings published in reputable outlets.

In 2024, the symposium received over 385 manuscript submissions from 501 participants representing 17 countries. The conference addressed a comprehensive range of topics, including environmental management, disaster risk reduction, land, water, and natural resource management, engineering economy and cost analysis, environmental and geological engineering, environmental development technology, geo-maritime studies, geo-resources and geo-hazard mitigation, geo-tourism and cultural geography, human factors and ergonomics, human and natural resource management, industrial geography and supply chain engineering, safety, security and risk management, as well as urban and rural resources and land use management.

Preparing your paper

It is essential that the topic of your manuscript aligns with both the thematic scope of the symposium and the publisher’s guidelines. This ensures relevance to the conference objectives and resonance with the interests of attendees and readers.

All submissions must present original research and must not have been previously published or presented elsewhere. To uphold academic integrity, manuscripts must not exceed a similarity score of 20%, with no more than 5% similarity from any single source. 💡 We strongly recommend using plagiarism detection tools such as Turnitin or iThenticate to verify manuscript originality.

All papers must be written in English (US) to ensure clarity and accessibility for an international audience.

Manuscript Format
  • Abstract: Maximum 250 words (excluding title, authors, and affiliations).
  • Layout: One-column format on A4 paper, submitted in DOCX and PDF.
  • Length: Minimum of four pages to ensure sufficient detail and contribution.

Ensure all fonts are embedded, and the document is not encrypted or secured. Avoid using headers, footers, bookmarks, form fields, hyperlinks, or annotations.

Figures & Tables

All artworks must be submitted at a minimum resolution of 300 DPI. Tables and figures sourced externally must be in English (US), with proper permissions and citations in accordance with copyright regulations. Tables must not be included as pictures or screenshots.

Author Information

Provide complete credentials for all authors, including:

  • Full names,
  • Email addresses, and
  • Institutional affiliations (list all if multiple), including city and country.

Do not include professional titles (e.g., Professor, Lecturer, HOD, Graduate Student) in affiliations. The order of author names must remain unchanged, unless formally approved by the publisher.

Ethical Citation Practices

Authors must avoid unethical citation practices, including:

  • Excessive self-citation
  • Irrelevant or honorary citations
  • Over-reliance on citations from the target journal

Cite only sources that are directly relevant and substantiate your research. Refer to COPE’s guidelines on citation manipulation ↗︎ for further clarity.

Peer-Review Process

All submissions undergo:

  1. Initial editorial screening
  2. Blind peer review based on:
    • Relevance and timeliness
    • Technical and scientific rigor
    • Novelty and originality
    • Presentation quality

Decisions include: rejection, major revision, or minor revision. Authors will be notified via email and can track progress via their EDAS account.

Post-conference, accepted papers will undergo additional review by the publisher, who will determine final acceptance.

ICST UGM adheres to the COPE Guidelines for Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing ↗︎. All authors are expected to comply with the Code of Conduct ↗︎ as outlined by COPE.

Conference Attendance

Authors must attend the conference on July 30–31, 2025, in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, for a live Q&A session. Attendance is mandatory. If unavailable, a co-author must present in your place. Unpresented papers will be excluded from publication.

1. Peer Review Process

All submitted papers will undergo a blind peer review conducted by qualified reviewers. The review process evaluates:

  • Relevance to the symposium theme
  • Scientific and technical quality
  • Originality and novelty
  • Clarity of presentation

Decisions include: acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection.

2. Publication Ethics

The conference adheres to the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) ↗︎ guidelines. Authors must ensure:

  • Originality of work
  • Proper citation of sources
  • Disclosure of conflicts of interest
  • Ethical treatment of research subjects (if applicable)
3. Plagiarism Policy

Manuscripts must not exceed a similarity index of 20%, with no more than 5% from any single source. Plagiarism in any form will result in immediate rejection.

4. Authorship and Contributions

All listed authors must have made significant contributions to the research. Changes in authorship after submission are only allowed with written consent from all authors and approval from the editorial committee.

5. Citation Ethics

Authors must avoid:

  • Excessive self-citation
  • Honorary or irrelevant citations
  • Citation manipulation aimed at inflating metrics

Only cite sources that are directly relevant and support the research.

6. Conflict of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could influence their work. All conflicts of interest must be declared during submission or review.

7. Editorial Independence

The editorial team operates independently and makes decisions based solely on the academic merit of submissions, free from commercial or institutional influence.

Terms and conditions
  • Participants can only pay the conference fees after receiving an acceptance notification email.
  • The registration fee includes the following benefits: seminar materials, lunch, morning and afternoon teas, attendance of all technical sessions, and publication (excluding accommodation).
  • The registration fee is applicable to one person only. Multiple attending authors must register separately, and those not presenting should register as non-presenters.
  • After verifying your payment, a receipt will be generated from the payment confirmation details.
  • Payments are nonrefundable.
  • Payments cannot be made in cash; they must be made via payment gateway or credit card.
  • Participants are responsible for transfer fees and bank charges.
  • At least one author for each accepted paper must register as a presenter.
  • Participants are charged based on their institution/affiliation, not the nationality of the first author.

To participate as a presenter in this symposium, there are nine steps that you need to follow.

Before submitting your paper, it is essential that all authors have an EDAS account. If you already have an EDAS account, you can proceed to the next step to submit your paper using your registered account.

1. Go to the EDAS site

Open your browser and navigate to edas.info. Click "Create a new account" below the login form.


2. Entry your details

Fill in the required fields (marked with a red asterisk). You can complete other information after the registration. At the end of the form, tick the box “I consent to the EDAS privacy and policies” and click "Add this person" to create your account.



Your account will require moderation for at least 24 hours.


3. Set up your password

Set up your initial password by clicking the link on your email. Ensure you check your inbox or spam mail for the email from the EDAS system. If you do not receive the email, feel free to contact us or the EDAS Helpdesk. Please note that we use third-party software, so you cannot request it at the end of time.

1. Log in to the UASC 2025 EDAS site

Type edas.info/N33736 and log in to your EDAS account.


2. Entry your paper details

Once logged in, click the "ICST: 6th Geoscience and Environmental Management Symposium" under the Track column.

Enter your paper details, tick the box “Add yourself as author,” and click the "Submit" button to register your paper.

Your paper has successfully been registered. You can now view it in your EDAS account.


3. Add your paper's author(s)

Click Add authors to add your co-authors (if available).

Enter your co-author’s name, EDAS ID, or email address. Alternatively, you can select their name from the co-author list. Then, click "Add author" button.

Click the "Select this person" button to confirm the addition.


4. Upload your document

After adding your co-author, click the "Upload the paper" button.

Tick the box “I have checked that the authors listed in the manuscript are the same as the current list of authors on the paper record,” choose your document, and click the "Upload ..." button.

Ensure your document is in the PDF format.

If your paper has been accepted for presentation at the conference, please ensure that you pay the conference fee prior to uploading the revised paper. Note that each paper can only be presented by one author, but one author can present multiple papers.

Following the notification of acceptance, please finalize your paper in accordance with the author guidelines and review results. The corresponding author is responsible for verifying the title, list of authors, and their affiliations in the EDAS system and manuscript. Any revisions cannot be made after uploading the revised version by July 25.

To complete the revised paper submission, please navigate to the EDAS dashboard page ↗︎ and click on your paper title. Then, upload your revised paper in PDF format by clicking the cloud icon in the "Revised paper" section.

2. Select one of your presenter

By default, the author who submitted a paper will be presenting at the conference. If the submitter of your paper is not designated as the presenter, please specify the presenter in the EDAS paper page.

Please submit your presentation document as soon as possible. If you need to make any last-minute revisions, you can do so at the registration desk on July 30-31.

To complete the submission process, please navigate to the EDAS dashboard page ↗︎ and click on your paper title. Then, upload your presentation in PPT, PPTX, or PDF format by clicking the cloud icon in the Presentation section. Additionally, ensure that you approve the public release (if applicable).

If you encounter any difficulties during the upload process, please do not hesitate to contact us. Please note that any presentations not received by the deadline will be considered as no-shows, in accordance with the non-presented paper policy.
